How we work with sustainability in our value chain
We operate in a complex value chain where climate impact, resource use and social issues are crucial for the future. As a coffee producer, we have a great opportunity to influence the entire coffee business – the same conditions apply to our tea. For our other product categories, where the brands are owned by external players, we work through dialogue and partnerships to create an understanding of the requirements and expectations set in our market. Our strategy is to act where we have the greatest impact and create sustainable change together with our brand owners.
Over the period 2026-2030, we have identified five focus areas that address the biggest sustainability challenges in our industry and contribute to the global goals.
- Climate and energy: Reduced emissions and smarter energy use
- Resources and circularity: Using circular and renewable packaging solutions
- Responsible range: Increase the proportion of organic products and further develop social responsibility in the range
- Transparent supply chain: Increased transparency through risk mapping
- Working environment and inclusion: A healthy, safe and inclusive workplace
Our sustainability strategy includes five focus areas
Climate and energy
Climate emissions in the value chain are one of the largest components of our environmental footprint. At the same time, our operations are directly dependent on a stable climate – which is why the climate issue is one of our most significant business risks. Together, we create a value chain that is both climate and resource efficient.
Resources and circularity
The choice of materials, design and customers’ willingness to sort at source are crucial in reducing the use of resources and the climate impact of our packaging. By setting requirements for suppliers, we are driving development towards more sustainable packaging solutions.
Work environment and inclusion
At Arvid Nordquist, we work together to create a safe and inclusive workplace where everyone has equal value. We strive for a high level of well-being, zero workplace accidents and a company culture characterised by a welcoming and fair workplace culture. We follow up on the results through regular employee surveys.
Responsible product range
Since 2014, all our coffee has been sustainability certified. Our roastery was the first in the Nordics to switch to using only certified coffee beans. Our ambition is to increase the proportion of sustainability-certified sales also within our other product portfolios, both by broadening the range and by actively promoting the sale of certified products.
Transparent supply chain
Amfori BSCI has a code of conduct that is an integral part of our supplier control process. The aim is to ensure that our products are manufactured responsibly and with respect for human rights throughout the entire value chain. The risk mapping for our Norwegian portfolio is published in accordance with the requirements of the Norwegian Transparency Act.
