BlueSun is a Spanish company that manufactures and markets high-quality household products with exceptional performance. They offer a wide range of products in categories including laundry detergents and cleaning products.
BlueSun faces several sustainability challenges: everything from chemical use, water consumption and plastic waste to greenhouse gas emissions. By constantly developing methods and products, they strive to minimise the company’s environmental impact and act responsibly in all their operations. Arvid Nordquist has been a reseller of BlueSun’s Dreft, A+ and Noora brands in the Nordic region since 2016. BlueSun works purposefully for a more sustainable future by focusing on innovation, developing circular solutions, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening transparency in the supply chain.
Innovation and sustainable product development
BlueSun is committed to the development of environmentally friendly and consumer-friendly products. One example is the integration of biopolymers into liquid products: polymers protect textiles by forming a film around the textile fibre, which reduces wear and tear and extends their life. By replacing synthetic polymers with naturally degradable biopolymers, they significantly reduce emissions of microplastics into the environment. They have also reduced the dose of detergent per wash from 50 to 45 ml, thereby reducing water consumption by 10% and water consumption by 3-5%. The slightly lower reduction in water use is due to the fact that the product formula contains more components than water. This change results in lower resource consumption and a more sustainable product.

Circular economy and waste management
One of BlueSun’s overall goals is to work on a transition to a circular economy. To achieve this, they have implemented strategies to reduce waste and to prioritise recyclable materials. For example, they are increasing the use of recycled cardboard in selected product categories. Today, all cork packaging is made of cardboard.
BlueSun has also implemented a recycling programme at its production facilities to minimise the amount of waste going to landfill. By prioritising recycled plastic over bioplastic, they want to reduce the use of virgin raw materials and contribute to more resource-efficient plastic use. FSC certification ensures that BlueSun’s products and packaging come from sustainably managed forests or are recyclable.

Cutting carbon emissions
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a central part of BlueSun’s sustainability strategy. They use renewable energy sources such as solar power in their Sevilla factory and have implemented energy-efficient technologies at several sites. These efforts are part of their long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality. In addition, the company has optimised its transport logistics and introduced more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Supply chain transparency and social responsibility
Transparency and social responsibility are crucial to BlueSun’s sustainability work. Their procurement policy contains clear requirements for upholding human rights. Regular audits of suppliers ensure that social, labour and environmental standards are in line with international standards. Through their membership in Sedex, a global platform for sharing information on social and ethical performance, they work to ensure sustainable business practices throughout the supply chain. They are also certified according to SMETA, which means that they are assessed on the basis of social responsibility and ethical working conditions in their supply chain.

Influence consumer behaviour and raise awareness
BlueSun actively encourages sustainable consumer behaviour through information campaigns that promote sustainable choices and recycling. Many of the company’s products are certified according to recognised labels such as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Fairtrade, which reflects the company’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility.
